ALL moms are so special.
They come in all different shapes and sizes. Ages and experiences. Hobbies and trials. Worries and fears. Talents and strengths. But they are ALL incredible women who put the needs of others before their own.
I always thought giving birth and endless nights of no sleep would be the hardest part of parenting…but then my daughter became a toddler.
Oh, life as a Mom of a Toddler is busy. These are the moms who are at the crazy and busy stage of running around like the Energizer bunny and struggling to keep up. The moms whos days are full of hilarious conversations and belly laughs. Full of “I love you, Moms” and the “Will you play with me?’s” Full of random hugs, big kisses and nightly cuddles as she reads stories in bed.
Being a mom of a toddler isn’t easy. Between the ages of 18 months and 4 years – our little ones are quickly growing and learning. It is fun to see the little people they are becoming as they explore life themselves.
As with any life transition, things are never easy… but a good way to make things a little easier is to use these handy dandy FREE PASSES.
What’s a free pass you say? Well it’s a wonderful little “get my sanity back” pat on the back, that lets me know that I am doing just fine even though I’m surrounded by craziness daily.
Yes… today, we have a list of 10 FREE PASSES every Mom of a Toddler automatically gets in life for holding this hard, courageous, stressful, fun and a bit crazy role.
1. BEING LATE: If you ask a mom why she is late, she will probably give you a list of 77 things that happened from 7am-715am, causing her entire schedule to shift. From the toddler having to poop as soon as she buckled them into their carseat to not finding any matching shoes around the house – she has experienced it ALL this morning. Being late is a part of motherhood – she is learning to embrace it. No matter how early she wakes up and thinks she will be on time, she will not leave the house until she is supposed to be there.
2. FORGETTING THINGS: The mommy brain is real. Forgetting events and playdates – forgetting where she put her keys and phone {even though they are in her hand} – forgetting what she told you 5 minutes ago – forgetting what she did yesterday – all of these things are normal.
3. FALLING ASLEEP RANDOMLY IN PUBLIC: Although she is now getting more sleep than she was when her toddler was a new baby, it’s a different kind of sleep now. Instead of constantly crying {bless those new mom’s hearts of in the middle of the night feedings! It gets easier I promise!} it is now hearing EVERY excuse in the world before bed. You know – like their thirsty, hungry, need to pee, their hair hurts, their toes hurt, their eyes can’t close, etc. She’s heard it all. And then once she finally does get them to sleep, little visitors come into her room two hours later and kick her in the face throughout the night and take up the ENTIRE king size bed – pushing her off onto the floor.
4. BRINGING PIZZA IN FOR DINNER…AGAIN: Moms of Toddlers don’t have to cook every night – because ain’t nobody got time for that! With a day like hers, dinner is the LAST thing on her mind. You may ask why she went to the grocery store today, but still picked up a pizza for dinner? Well, it’s simple. She is so exhausted from the grocery shopping trip with a busy three year old who ran up and down every aisle, wanting to eat every cookie and cracker box and crying to play down the toy aisle for an hour – soooo fast food wins! Don’t judge her. She’s a mom of a toddler.
5. GOING TO THE PARK AND SITTING ON HER PHONE: It may look like she isn’t paying attention to her toddler – but really – she’s just FINALLY getting a breather. She has been playing and entertaining the kid all day long and she brought him to the park for some fresh air. So let her kid play with the other kids – while she scrolls on her phone and gets a minute to herself.
6. CRYING FOR {WHAT APPEARS TO BE} NO REASON AT ALL: Oh you know – THAT mom. The one that cries at a drop of a hat. It’s not because she is losing her brain {well maybe she is} – but it’s because she has kept it together for so long. Life can be stressful and juggling the many things she has going on in her life is a LOT of work. So remember – she isn’t crying because she isn’t strong – she is crying because of a million things she has been so strong for so long for.
7. GOING TO TARGET FOR THREE HOURS AND CONSIDERING MOVING IN: Target. Every mom’s happy place. That dollar section is heaven on earth. This free pass allows her to enjoy every second of her Target shopping experience. She is allowed to aimlessly walk up and down every aisle at least 4 times, without being judged. All while filling up her cart with things she truly doesn’t need, but for some reason is purchasing.
8. WEARING THE MOM BUN 90% OF HER LIFE: This is my personal favorite free pass that I use on the daily. Moms of Toddlers are lucky to shower – let alone actually wash their hair. Remember these real reasons why the mom bun is so special though {click here for article}, and you will realize that she isn’t losing herself or letting herself go – but she has found herself and knows exactly what is most important to her.
9. FALLING ASLEEP AT 7PM: Sounds about right. She has probably faked being asleep to help her toddler fall asleep, but accidently fell asleep and took a 3 hour nap. OR maybe she legit put her pajamas on and went up to bed at 7 o’clock because she was JUST that exhausted. Either way – accident or not – she’s tired. So she gets to.
10. FOR HAVING THE FULLEST HEART & HAPPIEST SMILE: Although she is exhausted and although she may cry… Although she is rockin’ the mom bun for the third day in a row and although she desperately needs a Target vacation – Moms of Toddlers have the FULLEST hearts and HAPPIEST smiles. They truly know what love is and they know what life is all about. They experience daily struggles, but they experience even greater joys. And they absolutely win the best free pass of all – which is pure love. They are not paid by money – but they are paid with hugs, kisses and a million “I LOVE YOU’s.”
So – if you are a Mom of a Toddler – ENJOY these free passes and this beautiful stage of life.
And if you aren’t a Mom of a Toddler – be kind to everyone you meet…you never know if they have a toddler at home.
