Hey Ladies! Oh boy am I excited to share a Mommy MUST with you all today!
As a mom of two now {still SO weird to say?!}, I am always on the hunt for a nice, organized, light-weight and perfect diaper bag….and I am excited to share with you one of my new favorites this morning – the Borboleta Lunette Bag!
It has quickly become my go-to diaper bag and will soon be yours too, I am sure!
Veronica is the owner and creator of Borboleta and is one amazing and talented lady! She is half Thai/American {her mom is from Bangkok and her dad is from Boston) so she calls both places home. She speaks 4 languages – English, Thai, French, and Italian. The last two she picked up while studying art in Paris and bag design and fashion business in Florence! Absolutely incredible.
She says, “I love to travel. Not to check things off the list and to take selfies of myself and show off but more like wandering and discovering random things in new cities. I’ve been to 20+ countries, some of them many times. Every time we save up enough money my husband and I go on a trip. When we are broke we come back and work hard again. hehee.” Sounds SO fun, right?!
Veronica is a 2004 Tsunami survivor and a volunteer on the scene. It inspired her to work in the nonprofit sector after college, but after seeing how much of the donations went to the overhead costs, she started her own foundation called The Ocean of Wisdom in Thailand in 2007. 100% of donations go straight to the cause.
She continues and says, “We have been donating books to rural school libraries, giving scholarships to underprivileged students, and sponsoring breakfast programs (otherwise the kids go hungry until noon!), to name some of our projects. Every morning our breakfast program feeds about 100 students. We are working with about 400 students total for other programs.”
A portion of proceeds from Borboleta goes toward funding these programs. Read more here. She says, “I know a lot of brands say they donate to charities but for me the foundation projects are the core of my brand. I started my foundation way before I started the brand. Before I started Borboleta I spent a lot of time raising money but now with the proceeds from Borboleta I can concentrate on expanding our help to more rural schools. It’s how I combine my two passions – charity and design.”
Isn’t she AMAZING?! I honestly look up to Veronica so much and love her beautiful message and kind, thoughtful heart. Everything she is doing for others is a wonderful example for us ALL!
Veronica started Borboleta in 2012. She says, “A lot of time fashion is about exclusivity but I believe more in inclusivity. I believe in connecting everyone – my customers, me as the designer, my team members (makers, web developer etc) – because we are in this together. People should know the people behind their bags and everyone should be treated with respect and love.”
I love that about Veronica and I can say that she truly lives this principle. Getting to know her has been a joy and she is one of the KINDEST people!
