Top 10 Treats For Toddlers

Top 10 Treats For Toddlers

I thought I knew everything about being a mom by the time I became one! I did a lot of research online and read a lot of books about motherhood and what to expect each month with my new baby. As you moms know, time FLIES by and suddenly my little baby who only nursed and took a bottle, was ready to eat REAL food. I honestly had a really hard time with this! I quickly realized I didn’t know everything about being a mom, like I thought I did. I had no idea what to feed this hungry child!

It was time for me to do a little research and to ask my other cute mom friends what their baby’s favorite treats were. I literally searched every isle in Target and Wal Mart looking for the best snacks for my baby girl. Let me tell you – I am a bit of a crazy, paranoid mom. I was hoping I would grow out of this, but I am still a worry wort! I am always nervous Laila is going to choke on her food! Because of this, I have found SO much comfort in finding healthy, easy, soft and safe snacks for her!

Today I would like to share with you the Top 10 Treats for Toddlers! These are simple treats you can throw in your purse or diaper bag while on the go. They are perfect for out and about running errands, shopping, church or play days at the park! As our girl has gotten older, we have found ourselves giving her treats at times we would like her to be quiet {i.e.: church} and have found these to be the best {and better for her than m&m’s and rice krispy treats which we have been guilty of doing!}.

To see further details of these items, just click on the name of the product and it will take you to Amazon where you can read about it and even purchase it, to be delivered to your door. That is my kind of shopping now… especially with a little one!

1. Gerber Graduates Puffs -These will literally save your life. They come in so many different flavors and were the very first treat we ever introduced to her! Babies love these things!

PUFFS

2. Mum Mums – My cousin actually introduced these to us and we have been hooked ever since. Whenever Laila has one in her hand, people ask me what in the world she is eating. She is OBSESSED with them! AND they dissolve so quickly they don’t make messes!

3. Gerber Graduates Lil’ Crunchies – These also come in all different flavors, Laila’s favorite is this Veggie Dip. They are super similar to the puffs, but bigger and more flavor!

4. Yogurt Bites – One of our ultimate favorites. I will have to admit I have eaten a few of these myself. haha! Did you know you can also MAKE these yourself?! That recipe will come soon!

Yogurt Bites

5. Fruit Cups – Now these are a bit more messy of course, but if you are sitting down at a picnic table or in your own home, fruit is always a good snack! For adults too, of course! These little cups are the perfect portions – peaches or mandarin oranges are our family favorites!

Fruit Cups

6. Fishy Crackers – You can never go wrong with goldfish! Laila says, “ISHHH” when I pull these out for her. I think every kid loves these things! We seriously buy it in bulk!

Goldfish

7. Teddy Grahams  – The thing I love about goldfish and teddy grahams are that they aren’t in the “baby” isle – so they seem to be cheaper! These are also the perfect little treat for your toddler on the go!

8. Fruit Pouches – A lot of different brands make these pouches now and they are WINNERS! We always have a pouch in my purse for emergencies! It is literally baby food in a pouch – no mess, easy clean up and a perfect snack size portion!

9. Snack Bars – You can tear off pieces for a baby or give a toddler the whole bar and they will go to town on these things. They remind me of Nutri-Grain bars {which are also fine to give to a toddler too if you prefer!}.

Snack Bars

10. Cheese Crackers – Crackers! Love them. These are our favorite because Laila LOVES to dip them in the cheese. We say, “dip, dip, dip!” and she does it! We like her. 🙂

Cheese & Crackers

I hope as a new mom, you will find these treats helpful! Always know that you as the mom, knows what is best for your babies. It is always fun to try and give them new things to see how they like it.

I would LOVE to hear from you ladies too, as I am always looking for new snacks for Laila! What are your favorite treats for toddlers?

Favorites my son eats also helps him progress quickly, we eat raw, fresh produce. Its become simple to feed him when his pallet is used to REAL textures. He eats anything at 20months without me being concerned of pits or choking since i would place a whole avocado, peach, etc. in his hands to dig into. With my help being the mother with a hawks eye, im now teaching the ability to distinguish a ripe BLACKberry freshly picked. Its the start of ths begining of eventually growing all our food together.

Have you tried the new Goldfish flavors? I am definitely guilty of eating most of the toddler’s Strawberry Shortcake Goldfish than she got… They are just so good! I need to try some of these other treats with her. I always try to have something for her right when she gets up from her nap because otherwise she gets really cranky!

My little one is too young for solid foods yet but I imagine these types of finger snacks would be so appealing to toddlers and keep the clean-up more manageable for mom!

Oh, another thing I’d forgotten – my kids love dipping too, and I can get them to try lots of new things if they can dip it in yogurt! (I’ve tried hummus and it was a no-go. But they love yogurt.)

I love knockoff goldfish. Not because I actually like them but because it’s always like “whale crackers with cheese” So generic and cheesy sounding 😉

Mum-Mums were a big hit in my house! So were Puffs! Once baby is old enough to handle some solids, another great snack is Kix cereal – not too much sugar, small, and pretty cheap. A friendly reminder to other mamas – make sure you know the baby Heimlich maneuver. I’d forgotten it, so I asked my husband to re-teach me one day when our little girl had started eating solids – and just a few days later, she choked on a tiny piece of peach. I was so glad I’d practiced! It allowed me to stay very calm when the emergency hit. Anyway, this is such a great list! Happy snacking!

Oh Kimber, I could not agree with you more! I know the heimlich, but I would feel so much more comfortable getting a refresher on it! I NEVER want to have to deal with that. I always chop Laila’s food up SO small {Tyson sometimes teases me about it!} But for me – better safe than sorry! I am so glad you knew what to do!!

These are definitely easy on the go snacks. Just watch the ingredients, it is important to keep your toddler’s diet free of artificial and sugary ingredients.

We use all of these for our baby and toddler. Let me also recommend Little Yums as well. They are like Mum Mums but are harder (like a teething biscuit).

What a great list! I am that crazy mama too who constantly worries about choking! My daughter is 13 months now and she also loves fishies and those fruit pouches. We love giving her YoToddler yogurt from Stonyfield Farms and organic cheerios from Cascadian Farms!

It is SO hard to find non-messy snacks that are safe for toddlers. I never thought about the dipping crackers before. My daughter loves the yogurt melts too. I think we’ll try the Mum Mums next.

#1 is absolutely the best, even the daddy loves them! Katlyn’s favorites are the mixed fruits with cherries and Apple/pear cups. They also have cut carrots, beans and peas in the little single serving cups too, those have been a blessing for a quick veggie! ! 🙁

So true Jen!! We have slipped a few of her snacks into our mouths a few times! LOL Those cups are so perfect – Luckily, Laila is a good veggie eater as of right now. We are hoping that continues for as long as possible! 🙂
