An App That Will Change Asthmatic Mom’s & Children’s Lives

Eight months ago, I walked into the bathroom where Tys was holding my sweet boy who was throwing up. He had been coughing so much, trying to catch a breath for so long that it was causing his fragile body to give up. I grabbed Hunty boy as soon as I walked in and when I looked at him, I knew something wasn’t right.

His eyes were rolling to  the back of his head. He was the color gray from head to toe. His lips were purple. And he was struggling to breathe.

Of course, I panicked. I ran out of the bathroom into the living room where my brother {who is a doctor} was and showed him my weak son. I will never forget his face or his voice when he said, “Get in the car.”

I literally ran into the car without grabbing a thing. No cell phone. No wallet. No diaper bag. Not even shoes. Just me and my baby.

We raced to the hospital Emergency Room where they hooked my little guy up to oxygen & gave him a few shots to open up his air passage. After a few hours in the ER and running several tests, an ambulance came to pick him up, put my not-even-two-year-old on a stretcher and took him off to Children’s Hospital.

We were in an unfamiliar state on vacation with my family for Thanksgiving. We didn’t know where we were. The doctors. The hospitals. The treatments. It was all so foreign and new to us.

I remember laying in the hospital bed with my little buddy, as he breathed through his oxygen mask. I held him tight as tears streamed down my cheek. I wasn’t crying because we were in the hospital. I was crying because he was okay.

My boy was OKAY!

We spent two days in the hospital before we were able to go home. Many tests & doctor appointments followed this incident, which were blessings in disguise – because it led us to great treatments & an official diagnosis of asthma.

Through lots of research {and even help from all of you in our Bestie Squad who also have asthmatic children or even asthma yourselves!} I was introduced to Cohero Health and their BreatheSmart digital health tool. BreatheSmart was designed to help kids gradually take on more responsibility for their own care. It works by sending customized medication reminders and tracking inhaler use, symptoms, and triggers—all while keeping you connected to provide support at every stage of the journey.

I can’t believe that the CDC did a study that states that the highest incidence of children with asthma being hospitalized are under 5 years old.…which is seriously so scary to me!! Our precious babies!

I am excited about the BreatheSmart app & am happy to share a little more about it with you all in the coming weeks! I am all about keeping track and managing H’s asthma so I can help keep him as healthy & strong as possible!

Special thanks to Cohero Health for being a sponsor of Today’s The Best Day! Although we were compensated for this article, all opinions are my own.
