BUNCO – Take some time for YOU!

Being a mom can be rough. We have some pretty bad days, right?! Those days you feel are NEVER going to end. Those days where the baby is crying, laundry isn’t done, dishes are stacked, your to do list is a mile long and somehow in between you are supposed to pick up kids from soccer, dance and piano while making dinner and helping the kids with homework. YEP! We have all been there. Those days are HARD! For this reason, GIRLS NIGHTS were created.

Today I want to express the importance of having a Girls Night Out or just taking some “YOU” time. I honestly love being busy. I always have a pretty full schedule and several things planned each day for Laila and I to do. Don’t get me wrong – every now and then, those days of staying in the house all day and wearing our sweats are some of my favorite days… but MOST days, I do keep us busy. I feel like sometimes we get going so fast that the hours quickly turn into days, which quickly turn into weeks and before I know it – I am exhausted! I get tired and I need a break! I find myself with less patience and getting annoyed at little things that don’t even matter.

The other day on Pinterest I saw a picture that said, “YAY! It is Friday! Oh wait.. I am a mom.” I laughed. It is so true. Mom’s seriously never get a break! As much as I LOVE BEING A MOM, I do know how important it is for us to take a load off and get away for a few hours. Don’t be afraid to leave your baby or children with your husband, mom or friend. Get OUT… without the kids. You will feel good and come back being a better mom and wife. There is something rejuvenating about getting some air, being alone or with friends and coming back to start fresh!

Last night my friend threw the FUNNEST Girls Night Out that I wanted to share with all of you today. BUNCO NIGHT! Have you ever played? If you haven’t {or even if you have} gather your friends and plan a GNO (Girls Night Out). We laughed and made memories that will last forever.

I am excited to share with you ladies today the game of BUNCO. Here are instructions so you and your friends can get together, eat yummy food, and play a fun game!

ITEMS YOU WILL NEED FOR BUNCO:

12 FUN ladies, a notecard for each person with their name on it, 9 dice, a bell, a hole punch and a fun item that is easy to throw around the room.

HOW TO SET UP:

Divide the players into three groups of four, each group with its own table. Each person should have their card and each table should have a hole punch, pencil and note pad to keep score. One table will be the “head” table with the bell.

The notecard should look something like this. BUNCO on top and the numbers 1-6 on all three of the other sides of the card.

 OBJECT OF THE GAME:

The object of the game is get the most “punches” on your card. Rewards are given at the end of the game to the biggest loser (person with the least amount of punches), the winner (the person with the most amount of punches), the person who is holding the “lucky object” at the end of the game (details below) and the person who received the most “BUNCOS.”

HOW TO KEEP SCORE:

4 people will be sitting at each table. Your partner for each round, is the person sitting diagonal from you. On the score sheet, the person will write “US” and “THEM.” All three tables at the same time will have one player at a time, roll the three dice. For each die that hits the number of the round that you are on, your team gets one point. (i.e. in the first round, each “1” rolled earns one point). Three of any number in one roll earns five points. Roll three of the number of the round (i.e. three “6s” in round six) and earn an instant “Bunco,” or 23 points!

HOW TO RECEIVE THE “LUCKY OBJECT”:

We used this cute die, but you can use any item that is easy to pass around the room. In the beginning of the game have someone roll a die. In our game, we rolled a 5. 5 was our “lucky number” that night. Throughout the game, if anyone rolled three 5’s they yell, “LUCKY!” and they get the lucky object. Whoever is holding the object at the end of the game, gets a prize.

HOW TO PLAY:

The round will begin by the head table ringing the bell. Each person will roll the dice around the table. If it is my turn and we are on round 3, and I roll a 3, I would continue rolling. My points will continue adding up until I no longer roll a 3. In which case, I would pass the dice to the person to my left and they would begin their turn.

Do this all the way around the table around and around until someone at the “head” table reaches 23 points. The head table will then ring the bell. Every table stops at this point and adds up each team’s points. Each table will have a winning team and a losing team for that round. If you received the most points, you are the winner and will get a punch on your card for that round, if you are the losing team, put an “x” through that number on your card for that round. All players will rotate to form a new group of players at each table, so you will rarely have the same partner twice.

Once all three rounds are completed, the game is over. Count up how many wins or “punches” you have on your card. Whoever has the most… WINS! In addition, whoever had the most “BUNCOS” wins a prize as well!

This is my card… as you can see I did SO well in the beginning, and the last round I lost all but one round. I also received NO Bunco’s the whole game!!

Thank you to ehow.com on assisting with these directions.

This is such a fun way to visit with friends. I have heard of Bunco Groups that get together once a month to play and am considering starting a group. I just know how important it is for us to get out and have FUN with other ladies!

I encourage each of you to do something for YOU! This is a little crazy time of year, but maybe after the holidays, leave the kids with someone and get out for YOU! I promise you will feel better and come back WANTING to be a better mom! You will feel ready for whatever comes your way and will want to make every day the BEST day again!
