It is often stated that when a person’s home is messy, it’s merely a reflection of what’s happening on the inside. Clutter happens when a person struggles to keep their home organized and clean. Try out these four ways to organize the home and keep it that way.
1. Give Everything a Home
In order to keep a clean and organize home, it is really vital for every single item in the house to have its own assigned spot. When everything has a designated space, the chances are slim for things to start piling up in random areas of the house. Once items are given an assigned home, make sure to reinforce this by putting things back where they belong after use. That means the other family members will have to get into the same habit as well.
2. Discard Liberally
Get into the regular habit of throwing things away quickly. People who are hoarders don’t become that way overnight. It’s a gradual build. Before they know it, they are surrounded by junk they never got around to throwing away because they felt as though they’d need it at some point. If there are clothes hanging in the clothes unworn after a year, it is best to donate them to the local thrift store or to a friend who might be able to get some use out of them. After going to the mailbox, get rid of the junk mail, coupons and magazines no one reads. You still don’t have to be wasteful either. Be eco-friendly and recycle it.
3. Leave Space
Just because there is empty space in the cupboard doesn’t mean it has to be filled. Part of maintaining a home that’s free of clutter involves keeping spaces visually clear. The house doesn’t house an infinite amount of space. It might mean it’s time to take certain things to storage because they are taking up too much space at home. Consider renting a Tucson storage unit or one in your particular locale to free up space. For a little more concrete help, leave 15-20% room in a living space. Don’t stuff the cupboard, refrigerator, countertops, closets or medicine cabinets to the brim. Leave space.
4. Keep a Seasonal Routine
Most people make the annual spring-cleaning effort. It’s actually wise to do a major overhaul after every season. Things add up over time. Doing a seasonal deep-cleaning effort will help to tie loose ends and stay on top of cleanliness.
These four ideas are great for maintaining organizational systems. Maintaining systems to keep things organized is the best way to help a busy person stay on top of things.
