Sleep. The one thing every new mom dreams of getting.
I get asked about my favorite mommy products and must-haves for new moms ALL the time and my reply is simple… “ANYTHING that will help you get some sleep!” 🙂
As a new mom, life is exhausting. And at night, all you really want to do is finally relax and catch up on those z’s that you are in absolute NEED of!
I am super excited to share with you guys a few of our favorite ways that have WORKED for us the past few months of welcoming our little guy into our family, along with a few reminders of the safe sleep do’s and dont’s for your new sweet miracle.
Let’s get started! First of all: You will absolutely want a bassinet. It is the perfect way to room share and have your baby close, while still giving the baby his/her own space.
Is the Halo BassiNest worth it?
As a nursing, c-section mama, the last thing I want to be doing every 2 hours, in the middle of the night, is getting out of bed and walking to another room to get the babe – heavens, it is hard enough just to pull myself UP while in recovery!
And THAT is why the HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper is at the top of our #bestieMUSTS for babies when it comes to new moms! This award-winning bassinet is everything a new mom needs.
In fact, you can check out this quick video to see all of my favorite features that the BassiNest offers.
Beginning with its swivel feature that goes in and out, side to side and even over your bed – you can pull your baby as close to you as you would like. Its breathable mesh gives me comfort that he has enough air to breathe. Its retractable wall makes it easy to pull him in and out of AND to easily tend and care for him. Also, the new 2017 fabric design in medallion matches perfectly with our room decor. You can check out all of the options here.
Are Halo BassiNest safe for Newborns?
The second most important tip so you and your babe can sleep peacefully each night is that it is all about making the baby feel cozy! With the help of HALO’s Newborn Cuddle Insert, your baby will feel like he is being held all night long. It is so easy to pop on and off the BassiNest, and it is the ONLY item that can be safely used inside the BassiNest. It is designed with breathable mesh sides and a firm, flat sleep surface to meet guidelines for safe sleep. It provides a comforting hugging feeling that will make your baby sleep like a charm! {I know mine has!}.
Are the HALO SleepSack Swaddles Safe for Baby Sleep?
And lastly, but probably the most important thing to talk about, is blankets. As much comfort and warmth blankets bring to our little babes, they can also be very dangerous. And THAT is the very reason I have found the most comfort in wrapping our babe in the HALO SleepSack Swaddle…which is a wearable blanket!
With three EASY steps, your baby is not only swaddled {which my boy LOVES by the way!}, but is also warm, which means there is no need for extra blankets surrounding his sleeping space.
A few more DO’s for baby safe sleep to keep in mind:
- DO place your baby to sleep on his or her back at nap time and at night time.
- DO use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snugly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
- DO remove all blankets, comforters and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
- DO offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
- DO breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
- DO room share, but don’t bed share. Bed sharing can put a child at risk of suffocation.
And of course, when there are DO’s… there are a few DONT’S to keep in mind as well:
- DON’T put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins etc.)
- DON’T dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
- DON’T allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.
