How A FISH Can Change Your Family

Family Night… hands down, my 100% favorite night of the week!

Each week depending on our calendar and lists of things to do, we set aside a specific night that we can spend time together as a family. Just the three of us.

We like to go to a yummy dinner, go on a little adventure, participate in a fun activity or even stay home and just play games together disconnected from our phones and electronics! But no matter what we choose to do… what is most important is creating a memory that will last forever!

About eight months ago as we were trying to decide what we should do for family night, my three-year-old excitedly exclaimed, “PetSmart! PLEASE!” {Honestly, that place is our go-to store for any pet supplies, aquariums, food and care products – AND we like to check out all of the fun animals there, so we go there pretty often!}

In fact, we had been to the store just a few days prior to show her the animals and she LOVED it! Seriously. She CLEARLY had the time of her life! This was now probably the seventh time in three days that she asked to go there. {You mamas know how that goes!}

So of course, we piled in the car and drove to our nearest PetSmart – and before I knew it, we were standing in line, purchasing our FIRST family pet EVER…”Dory.” Our little, perfect, sweet and newest member of our family, GOLDFISH.

It didn’t take long for Dory to change our lives and to bring a sense of love and peace into our home. Our three-year-old looked forward to feeding her every morning and loved saying goodnight every evening. This little goldfish was a friend, a responsibility, and truly filled a little piece of our hearts and home that we didn’t know was empty.

I had always heard of pets playing an important role in a child’s life, but I didn’t understand until I experienced it first-hand. Dory is our girl’s friend. She feeds her, plays with her, takes care of her and most importantly…LOVES her! There isn’t a day that goes by that my little L doesn’t walk by her aquarium just to say hello to our little goldfish.

Dory has truly changed our lives and we are forever grateful for the peace, quietness, gentleness and calmness she brought with her into our home. In fact, we love her and hope she lives forever! She will always be a part of our little family!
