One of my favorite songs to sing with my one-year-old is If You’re Happy And You Know It! “If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands! If you’re happy and you know it, clap you’re hands! If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it! If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands.” The moment I start singing that song, no matter where we are, Laila will stand up so big and tall and clap her little hands as fast as she can. Sometimes she does it so fast, she falls over! She is truly happy, she definitely knows it and she isn’t afraid to show it!
Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, “Happiness is the destination, but also the path.” We all want to find happiness, when in reality, we actually need to create it… right here and right now! Through some of the hardest trials I have had to face in my life, I have found that being happy is what gets me through each day. Knowing I couldn’t lock myself in my room and wait for someone to come make me happy {which I am guilty of doing before} – I need to wake up and create happiness myself. I have to put a smile on and find the blessings in my life.
As mothers, we can get discouraged and that can definitely have an affect on our happiness, would you agree? We can think we aren’t doing our best and we can think we have failed – but please, DONT! Thomas S. Monson said, “Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, “I’ll try again tomorrow.”
The other day Laila fell and bumped her head on the wall {it seems to happen too often lately! Still learning how to run around here!} She was crying and I started singing If You’re Happy And You Know It again. Through her tears, she stood up and started dancing her little heart out. There was even a tear on her little chubby cheek that was stuck. She soon was laughing and everything seemed to be okay. That day, her sweet smile through her tears taught me that even when life is hard, we all can find happiness.
Know that you are doing a good job as a mom, a wife and a friend. Through hard days, I hope you will always remember you can always try again the next day. Put a smile on your face and go forward with true joy this week. In fact, let’s play a little game! Let us find the happiness in each day! Take a picture of you or your children HAPPY this week! Share it with us by tagging us or using #HappyAndIKnowIt !
Oh and next time you hear the song Happy And You Know It, I hope you will stand up and clap your hands as fast as you can too! 😉
