I was recently asked the question, “Is your life NOW how you imagined it being five years ago?”
And oh my heavens I didn’t even need to think about it! My life is SO different than I could have ever imagined!
IS YOURS?!
Just off the top of my head, I feel like my life has changed in pretty much ALL aspects of my life over the past five years. From where I live… to what I do…. from my daily schedule…. to the people around me… from how I feel… to the message I want to share with the world… I mean, holy moly… the list goes on and on.
But as I have had a few days to really think about that question, I have been thinking about each person in my little family and how different each of their lives are too – not just mine.
You see –
As a family, we have had many heartaches and countless bad days…
but oh my goodness, have we also received THE GREATEST blessings and witnessed true miracles…all of which have changed our lives and made us who we are today.
One miracle we have witnessed is this boy RIGHT HERE.
It’s crazy to think about the first two years of this sweet boy’s life. We spent hours with different doctors trying to figure out what was causing him to struggle breathing so much. We went to three, four and even FIVE doctors offices searching for opinions as we strived to find a way to help him feel better.
I remember rocking him to sleep in the middle of the night one night, while listening to his bed sheets being washed in the washing machine from throwing up AGAIN – and thinking to myself, “Is this going to be my forever? Will he ever be healthy?”
It was just a few months later we FINALLY received the answers we needed and in an instant our life was changed.
“Your son has asthma,” the doctor said to us as he showed us the x-ray of his little, fragile lungs. “This explains the sleepless nights, the constant coughs, the low oxygen at times, the continual throw ups and even the hospitalizations.”
Many people think that getting a diagnosis like this would be sad to hear, but for us we were so grateful to receive an answer so we could be put on a path to help our little man feel better and live a long, healthy and happy life – something I honestly doubted would happen at times.
You see, after receiving a diagnosis – it changes everything. Instead of trying to find out the cause of these scary experiences we were having – we were able to focus on finding solutions.
It’s true – asthma changes your life.
It changes:
How you feel.
What you can do.
What you need to bring in your bag in case of an emergency.
Your bedtime routine.
Your morning routine.
The boundaries you need to set.
The medication that you take.
And the lifestyle that you live.
But you know what else changes your life?
