I am obsessed with uplifting quotes and little reminders for my kids that they can do hard things! In fact, now that my girl is learning how to read and write – it has brought on a whole new level of FUN when it comes to reminding her about how much I love her!
So many times we want our children to know we love them – but forget to just TELL them! Communication is so important in all of our relationships – especially with our children – even at a young little age, when we think they may not understand exactly what we are saying.
But today I have a little challenge for all of you and a super fun way to communicate with your littles – no matter how old they are! By the time you complete the challenge, communication is going to be EASY peasy and you both will be able to express your love to each other in a fun and creative way.
So. Are you ready for this?!
A few months ago my girl and I started a “Mama & Me Journal!” Have you ever heard of it?!
A Mommy Journal is something that is SO special and is not only something that you will LOVE right now, but it will be a special treasure you will have FOREVER. It will be a place for you and your kids to write each other notes and letters…about life.
HERE IS HOW IT WORKS:
STEP ONE: All you have to do is buy an inexpensive journal {or notebook} that you can snatch at a store {OR if you are feeling extra crafty, you could put some paper together and make one yourself! } and write on the cover “Mommy & Me Journal” or “Dear Daughter Diary” or “Simple Something for my Son” book…. or whatever you would like to title it.
STEP TWO: Along with the journal, you are going to want to get some fun pens that you and your kids will be able to write with. When we have cool, easy to write with, COLORFUL pens – my girl could write and color ALL DAY LONG, so this is key!

STEP THREE: You will start the journal today, by writing a little note inside of the front page to your child. If you have several kids, make a journal for each of them individually. If you have a baby or toddler {like my baby boy} who cannot write back yet… don’t worry! You can still get a journal to write letters and notes to them. One day they will be able to read and understand – and what a TREASURE that will be for them! To see how their mom felt about them, even when they were tiny.
STEP FOUR: Once your first note to them is complete, you will put the Mommy Journal on your child’s pillow and after they find it, they will get to write back to you and then put it on your pillow. The journal will go back and forth between the two of you as often as you like, for as long as you would like!
My sister has done this with all five of her children for the past TEN years – what a special thing for her daughters and son to hold on to, right?! And now as Besties, we all are going to create this tradition too!
This is an amazing way to express your love and to know all the good and bad things that are going on in your children’s lives. You can tape photos or draw pictures in it – you can do whatever you want to make it special for the two of you! This is not only a great activity for learning how to write and communicate as they get older, but it is truly a treasure that you are creating! How fun for our children to be able to look back years from now at their old Mommy Journals to see how much they have grown and how loved they are!
