This past Saturday, I spent the day baby shower hopping with my mother and sister in law! We had so much fun going from one shower to the next and it made me SO excited to meet all of these cute newborns that I will get to squeeze and kiss in just a few weeks! I am already super baby hungry and can’t wait for the opportunity to have another baby one day!
As we were attending all of these beautiful and fun showers, memories of my own baby shower were flooding back through my memory! My mother-in-law, sister and sister-in-laws did an incredible job and I thought it was only appropriate to share it with all of you today!
We decided on the theme, “She’s About to POP!” For those of you that know my mother-in-law, you would expect nothing less than the following. She is so creative and always goes above and beyond ALL expectations! Let’s get to it:
Step 1: INVITATIONS
To start things off, did you know that you can send BABY BOTTLES through the mail? I had no idea until we did this! We wanted the invitation to be unique and fun – and this did just that! In the baby bottle there were several items: A piece of paper that read, “Blow up the balloon to a really big size, then POP it to find a fun surprise!” There was also a balloon tied up with string and INSIDE the balloon was the invitation to the shower. When the guest received their baby bottle in their mailbox, they had to blow up the balloon and POP it – Then the invitation would fall out and read, “Danielle is about to “POP” with the details and information. We had several ladies contact us telling us that they were coming to the shower, only because the invitation was so creative and they couldn’t wait to see what the actual shower was going to be like!
Step 2: DECORATIONS
A balloon arch is always a great way to say “Welcome” and shows the guests that they are at the right house! We had a few of my maternity pictures outside by the arch as well. Because I was having a girl, we made everything PINK! The balloons, the tables, the banners – everything! It totally works out too because my favorite color is pink. I LOVE having a girl!
Our great friend (who is SO talented) made this beautiful diaper cake! Diaper cakes are the perfect center pieces for any baby shower! Not only are they cute, but I got to use the diapers and everything on it once the baby came. It is such a nice and beautiful present that can be used as decor.
We also set up a clothes line for all of the clothes that I would receive. It was such a fun way to display the cute things that my friends gave me! By the time the last present was opened, the clothes line was FULL of all of Laila’s new outfits. It was a perfect way for the people who came late as well, to still have the opportunity to see what I got AND it made for a cute decoration!
Step 3: FOOD
Because of the “Ready to POP” theme, we served things that POP! Like POPcorn chicken, POPpyseed salad, POPovers, POP rocks, tootsie POPS, POPcorn, ringPOPS and so on. Everything looked amazing, tasted so delicious and I loved that it all went perfectly with the theme!
Step 4: ACTIVITES
Our guest list was pretty large and we knew it would be difficult to play games, so we planned small activities and stations, rather than a big group game. When you first walked in, we had a Photo Booth with props and a chalk board for guests to write a message to Laila. I even used the pictures from the Photo Booth as thank you postcards!
We also had a station called, “Dear Laila.” This was probably my most favorite treasure of the whole day, that I have displayed in her room to this day. Each guest filled out a paper for Laila of their hopes and dreams for her in the future. They filled in the blanks on questions like, ” I hope you always _____ and I hope you laugh at ________” I love to go back and read what everyone wrote to her and I can’t wait for her to be old enough to read and understand what each person wrote. I know it is something she will treasure forever.
Tyson made a video of the shower. If you are planning a shower I encourage you to watch it:
