Six Months To Success In The Blogging World

Six Months to Success in the Blogging World

Today is a very special day for me and my family! Six months ago I sat down at this computer to write out my FIRST blog post on Today’s The Best Day! I honestly can’t believe what a fun, crazy, busy, exciting, and awesome experience this has been. If you were to tell me six months ago that this blog would be what it is today, I would not have believed you!

I have always been a very social person! Well – not always. In fact, up until High School, I was super shy and extremely quiet! Yes, I was that awkward girl in the corner with braces, glasses and acne. For some reason in High School, I received a little confidence boost and became a loud and pretty outgoing person and I have never looked back. I absolutely love people! I love meeting new people, visiting with old people and connecting with people all around the world. I think it is so fun to be able to get to know each and every one of you a little more every day with each comment and nice email I receive.

I began this blog to share some of my experiences as a first-time mom with the world. It was my hope that I would help ONE person out there who needed to feel uplifted or to have that extra push to know that they are doing a good job as a mother, a wife or even as a woman. Within the first few months, I received so much support and love from each of you and I am forever grateful for that.

I had no idea that my blog would be my job. Like I said, I was just doing this to help someone be a little happier about motherhood – I did not intend on having actual followers and subscribers and readers and friends and of course, actually having the opportunity to make money doing what I love to do! Thank you to my husband who encouraged me to pursue it as a “job” once we saw the support we were receiving. This blog is pretty much 100% successful because of HIM! Every now and then you will see a special guest post by my main man, but for the most part he is my behind the scenes, Marketing Manager, IT Tech, CEO, Social Networking Manager, Advertiser, Accountant, Photographer and every other title there is in a business. 🙂 He is awesome! He rocks! And I love him!

I have had a lot of friends, those I know and some I do not know, ask me how I have been able to become a blogger in just six months! I have a husband and a baby to take care of and it can, at times, be super busy and a little crazy around here. But today, I wanted to share with you a few tips and pointers that I have learned the past six months as I have jumped into this online world. I call it, “Six Months To Success In The Blogging World” Tweet this!. I hope that these things that I have come to understand will help you as you pursue your own blog and try to make it not just a hobby, but a career! A career that can help others and actually change the world.

#1 – DESIRE & PASSION: I put this first, because I truly believe it is one of the most important points. In order to be successful at ANYTHING, not just blogging, you need to have the desire and passion to do it. You need to WANT it. You need to crave it. You need to have that little push inside of you that makes you wake up every morning to DO it. For me, I have always had the desire to help those around me. I have longed for the opportunity to know that I was doing good for someone else. To know that something I said or something I did, actually had a positive affect on someone. Blogging is just that. Through words and pictures, as bloggers, we have the opportunity to help those that need something positive to read. Because of that, it is easier to find that desire in my heart because I know that my words are helping someone else.

#2 – THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX: In other words, be creative! Often times I get asked the question, “How do you not run out of ideas of things to write about every single day?” I blog 7 days a week – that is a lot of writing and material! Luckily, my response to this question is simple. “I experience life – and then I write about it!” If you think about it, every single day something happens. Even if Laila and I just make messes around the house all day – we did something. I like to think back on my day at night and ask, “What did I learn today?” There is always something! And that is what I write about. Be creative in your writings – ask yourself when you come up with an idea, “Would I, myself, want to read this?” If the answer is yes, you’ve done your job! Post it!

#3 – CREATE A SCHEDULE: On my post on How to Blog With a Baby, you can read more details on creating a schedule with a family and how I do it daily. I have learned the importance of this because let me tell you – blogging is BUSY! Oh my heavens, it is busy! I had no idea how much work these ladies and gentlemen actually do to make their websites successful! It is a lot of work and takes up a lot of time. In fact, if I did not have any other responsibilities, I could easily spend all day, every day on my computer! I have learned that I personally, work better after I shower and get ready for the day! I also only blog while my baby is sleeping, as I don’t want it to distract from my time with her. Creating a schedule is crucial for your success.

#4 – SOCIAL NETWORKING and CONFERENCES: Having a blog is all about connecting with your readers. It is about sharing your life, ideas and experiences with others! Luckily, I have always been a big fan of Social Networks. I love Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and Google Plus –  the list goes on and on of course. Jumping into the Social Network world is how you connect and stay connected to your readers. I spend at least an hour a day on these Networks not just advertising what I have written, but commenting and liking other people’s photos as well. Put yourself out there and shine! Another AMAZING way is to attend conferences where you will be able to meet other bloggers! I had the opportunity to attend the Build Your Blog Conference in January and I am telling you – it truly gave me the push that I needed! I felt rejuvenated and connected! I felt like these accomplished, successful bloggers, understood me and I was able to set goals of where I wanted to be one day!

#5 – IGNORE NEGATIVE PEOPLE: I have unfortunately learned, that there are some negative people in this world. On a blog that I try to be positive and give you your daily dose of encouragement, you would think there would be all positive comments and feedbacks in return… but that isn’t true. What you can do though, is ignore them! People are going to be mean and it is so sad to me! Always remember that YOU have control of YOUR blog. Delete negative comments and keep going! Don’t give up! Don’t let others pull you down! You are doing a great job! Never get discouraged! And if you find yourself getting discouraged, email me! Seriously – I am here for YOU!

#6 – GET YOUR REST: This may sound silly, but it is one of the most important things in success! I have had times where I have felt so busy and planned on staying up until 3am working – but I have learned that getting rest is just as important as getting the job done. If I am tired, I don’t work well. My posts aren’t as good, my ideas are slacking and my motivation just drops! Make sure you get your rest and always remember that tomorrow is a new day! Start fresh in the morning and pick up where things left off. My husband always reminds me that I am my own boss! Whether I get my article done at 3am or 8am – it is okay! As a blogger, you have complete control of your own blog! That is why it is so awesome!

#7 – ENJOY IT: Last, but certainly not least, is to ENJOY! Have fun with your blog! Let it be your place to go when you want to get away from the world. Write about things you love and that you want to share with others! Every time I see something yummy or do something fun, I automatically think, “Hey! I am going to blog about that!” It is funny how all of the sudden it just becomes a part of you! If you have fun – I promise you will be successful! “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” – Confucius.

Choose a job you love

I can’t believe this is our six month anniversary! This blog is not successful because of me. It is because of YOU – my followers, my readers… my FRIENDS! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I hope as we continue on this journey of motherhood that we will feel united and that together we will be able to make EVERY day, the BEST day for our families!

Please as always, don’t forget to share! –

Awesome and inspiring post! I just found your blog through Pinterest. It is so encouraging to read posts about the success of other newish bloggers, especially of someone with a baby as well. I hope to reach this kind of success one day. Thank you for the great tips and I look forward to exploring your other posts!

Just cruising around Pinterest putting off finishing my post on Ecuador.
So I needed a little nudge this evening. I have a mental block that I can’t blog about anything else until I finish my travel post because we are home now and I feel like a phony blogging about this amazing place when I now sit in my boring sub-division home in Georgia.
So maybe I’ll finish Ecuador or maybe I’ll give myself permission to write about something else until I can put my heart into the other.
Either way I needed a little boost. Thanks!

Loved loved loved this post, Danielle! I’ve been blogging for only 4 months now and want to achieve so much but struggle finding the time to do it all. I too, only blog when my baby is sleeping and although she’s one year old, she still hasn’t realized how awesome sleeping can be! Lol! Maybe when she becomes a better sleeper, I can do more!

You and your achievements are such an inspiration to me. Congrats! 🙂

I just found your blog last week from emmymom2. I’m pleased to start following you early in your blogging career. Several blogs I’ve started only to lose interest quickly, nothing in common, too few posts, posts aren’t uplifting. Several blogs I read and have become a regular reader and commenter. When I read your post about General Conference and your love of being a mom although my kids are older by 8 & 10 yrs I knew I would be a regular follower. Congratulations on your first 6 months and I look forward to many more posts.

I agree about your bullet points but don’t think that I agree with the quote about a job never feeling like work. sometimes it’s because you love a thing that it feels like work
