This month has quickly become my favorite month this year! As a Bestie, you probably know by now that for the month of November, our theme at the Besties Headquarters is “SERVE.” We have been talking about all of the different ways to serve our families, our friends and our communities.
Today I have tears in my eyes yet AGAIN as I share another way to SERVE this time of year.
My five year old and I were on a mommy & me date last night {by the way – those are the BEST and I highly recommend taking your littles on one-on-one dates often!} and we were talking about people in need and how we can help them.
L has a little friend that has cancer and we were looking at pictures of how she was doing in the hospital. One of our favorite things to do is visit and play games with her to make her a little happier in her hospital bed.
“Why doesn’t she have hair?” she asked.
Her sweet question had given me the opportunity to teach her about this heartbreaking illness her little friend has. I also told her about the few times that I have had the opportunity to donate my hair to women who do not have any hair due to cancer.
When I was done she quickly replied, “Well I want to do that!”
It was the sweetest thing in the world! She didn’t even have to THINK about chopping 10 inches off of her hair. She wanted to help. She wanted to SERVE!
We were at Walmart picking up a few things and I remembered that inside the store, they had a full-service hair salon, SmartStyle! They had reached out earlier to work together, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to give it a try before I shared it with you guys and oh my gosh – it was AMAZING!!
At SmartStyle, you literally kill all the birds with one stone because it is super conveniently located INSIDE Walmart where we were heading anyways!! The stylist was professional and kind and SO GOOD with little L as she was so anxious for this special day and what she was about to do!!
They had products galore that I had so much fun checking out and even came home with a few! Our cute hair dresser highly recommended the Wet Hairbrush because of L’s curly hair – and you guys! It has been LIFE CHANGING!! It brushes right through her tangles and without ruining her curls. We are HOOKED!! AND last but certainly not least, it was TOTALLY affordable!! And you know I only share things with you guys that are affordable since we are all mamas on a budget! 😉
They also offer a full range of hair services from women haircuts to men and children’s, color services, styling and even waxing! AND I am pretty sure L’s favorite part was when they shampooed and conditioned her hair! She walked out and said, “Ummm can we buy one of those sinks for our house?!” haha!
It was by far one of our FAVORITE mommy and daughter dates EVER!! Truly a night that we both will remember…probably forever! And we are SO happy that SmartStyle was able to be a part of it!
You guys, service comes in all forms, shapes and sizes! There are SO SO many ways to serve!! We just have to look around us and ask “How can I help THAT person?!”
THAT person may just need a smile. They may just need a door to be opened for them. They may need a simple text that gives them the courage to keep going.
I hope that you will continue to look around you and SERVE someone this week! It is rewarding and beautiful and fun and memorable and SO SO worth it!
