10 Things Your Mom Wants You To Know

I love my mom. My whole life, she has been my example – my friend – my hero. I have always wanted to grow up and be just like her. She is the most selfless, kind, smart, funny and loving person I know. I don’t think I have ever heard her say a mean thing about anyone or be negative about any situation in that matter. She has been a shoulder to cry on – from falling down and scraping my knee at the park {that I STILL have a scar from when I was five!} to holding me tight as I found out another fertility treatment didn’t work. She was there to comfort me when I needed it most. My mom also has been a person to laugh with – from the silly things she says to the silly things I say. {Often times my siblings call me “Julie” when I am being like my mom. We are twins.} My mom is a peacemaker and is always making sure everyone feels loved and included.  Every day I try a little harder to be a little more like her. It is my goal to one day be JUST like her!

I love that we have a whole day to celebrate our MOMS! Often times I struggle throughout the year making sure my mom knows how much I appreciate her, so I am excited we have a specific day that we can really focus on showing our moms how much we love them.

As a new mom, I have been thinking a lot about Mother’s Day and how special it is for ME this year. For many years, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to ever be a mom and now that I am one, I feel so blessed. I always thought moms looked forward to Mother’s Day because of gifts and celebrating THEM… but I have learned that I have been wrong. To mothers, Mother’s Day isn’t about the gifts or THEMSELVES… it is about their children and the blessings they are in their lives.

As my daughter is getting older, I feel like there is so much for her to learn and know! With so much evil and sadness in this world, I want to make sure I raise her to be happy and courageous. So this Mother’s Day, I don’t want a gift from her – SHE is my gift! I just want to be with her! But I want to get HER a gift – a gift from my heart. I want her to know a few things that I know are true.

I have come up with 10 Things Your Mom Wants You To Know This Mother’s Day… and EVERY DAY. This is dedicated to my miracle baby, Laila. These are a few things I want her to know and tell her RIGHT NOW.

10 Things Your Mom Wants You To Know

1. LIFE IS TO BE ENJOYED: Sometimes life is so hard! Bad things happen to good people. Trials come that make little {or sometimes big} bumps in our journey of life. But I want you to remember that life is to be enjoyed. Have fun! Celebrate life! Have parties and make good friends. Go on lots of vacations and experience the world. Life is too short not to live your dreams. Set goals and work hard to achieve them. Always love the life you live.

2. BE KIND TO EVERYONE: There are enough mean people in the world, we need more nice ones. Stand out. Be different. Stand for what you know is true and always look for those who need help. You never know what is going on in other’s lives – so make sure you are always nice to everyone. A simple smile can change the world. Don’t judge too quickly and don’t make fun of others for their differences. My mom always told me to “be EVERYONE’S friend.” And I want you to do the same.

3. FIND YOUR TALENTS AND STRENGTHS: You are only one year old and you already have so many talents! You just learned how to walk, you love to help me clean, you love to organize your toys and help me do the laundry. You are a good girl! As you get older, you are going to be able to find even more talents! I hope you love music and that you sing. We already sing, don’t we? I hope we can sing lots of duets together and that you will play a musical instrument. I hope you love being active and find a sport you love… that includes our nightly dance parties. I know that you have many talents waiting to be found. I hope I can help you find those and we can experience the joy of those talents together!

4. YOU WILL FALL, BUT STAND STRONG: You might get sad sometimes… you might struggle with something. But always know you can pick yourself up and keep moving forward. Nothing is ever too big or too much to handle. You can do it! I know you can! I am your mom and I am your BIGGEST cheerleader!

5. YOU ONLY DESERVE THE BEST: In our family, we have high standards and values. I hope you always remember to never lower those standards and values. You deserve friends and one day a husband {your dad says that you can’t get married until you 45 by the way!} that will make you a better person. You deserve the very best! Only the very best!

6. YOU MAKE ME HAPPY: Did you know that you joining our family has made your dad and I the happiest people on earth? You make us laugh SO hard! You make us smile! You make our hearts FULL of joy! Thank you for being YOU! Always be YOU. Never change – we love you just the way you are!

7. SMILE AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN: I love smiling! I hope you know that! We like to smile all the time! Smiles just make us feel good. I hope you always remember to show your smile to others. It is a pretty one! 🙂 You look cute with your little teeth showing so bright. Share your happiness with those around you – you can always be a good example to everyone. You never know who is watching you.

8. KNOW THAT YOU ARE A PRINCESS AND ARE NEVER ALONE: You are a daughter of God, who is a Heavenly King – which means, YOU are a princess! Always remember that you can pray, in fact, I hope you pray every single day. You are never alone – even if sometimes it feels that way. I know that Heavenly Father can hear and answer ALL of our prayers. Every single one of them… big and small.

9. GO OUT AND MAKE A MEMORY: I learned that phrase from my mom! When you leave our house every day to go to school or different activities – always remember to make a memory! Take pictures and have a good time.

10. I LOVE YOU FOREVER, I LIKE YOU FOR ALWAYS, AS LONG AS I’M LIVING MY BABY YOU’LL BE: Last, but most importantly I want you to know ALWAYS – that I LOVE YOU! You have changed my life. You have made me a better person. You have made me so happy and full of joy. Sometimes I miss you at night and I creep into your room and look at you sleeping in your crib. I just want to kiss all the time because you are just so stinkin’ cute! Thank you for being my daughter and loving your imperfect mother.

I hope ALL of you mother’s out there have a wonderful Mother’s Day – celebrating this great gift in our life… our children! I am so grateful for my mom and I love her so much. Abraham Lincoln said, “All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” And I just say “AMEN!” to that. I love you mom! Happy Mother’s Day!

All that I am or hope to be

And to Laila…I love you! Thank you for making me a MOM!
